Working Group 1:
Improving research capability
The aim of this working group is to develop European small arms research capability via scholarly interchange:
Discussion among researchers in working group meetings.
Short-Term Scientific Missions (STSM).
Dialogue with researchers in disciplines, such as Criminology, Peace research, Political Science, International Relations, Law (both international and domestic), and Development economics.
WG1 does not generally operate independently from the other two working groups. Instead it is used to ensure that there is an important methodological element in the activities carried out by the other working groups.
Working group 1 is coordinated by Michael Ashkenazi of the Bonn International Centre for Conversion (BICC) in Germany.
