In cooperation with Access Now and PRIO, we invite you to another session of the Out of the box webinar series, this time on digital transformation in the humanitarian sector.
There is currently significant confusion about the state of digital transformation in the sector. Humanitarian decision-makers and practitioners manage large amounts of data without exploring how digital capacities, standards, and data governance systems relate to actual humanitarian priorities. New skills and profiles are needed to futureproof digital humanitarian action. Kristin Bergtora Sandvik, Research Professor in Humanitarian Studies at PRIO, Giulio Coppi, Senior Humanitarian Officer at Access Now, and myself analysed the current state of digital transformation in the sector from different perspectives:
- Coppi, Giulio (2024). Mapping humanitarian tech: exposing protection gaps in digital transformation programmes. AccessNow.
- Sandvik, Kristin Bergtora (2024). Humanitarian Extractivism. The digital transformation of aid. Manchester: Manchester University Press.
- Duechting, Andrea (2024). The digital capacities of German humanitarian action: moving from aspiration to reality. Centre for Humanitarian Action.
In this Out of the box webinar, Kristin Bergtora Sandvik, Giulio Coppi and Andre Duechting want to take stock of the sector’s digital transformation and explore dilemmas and opportunities in the digital skilling, standardisation, capacity building and capacity strengthening potentials. They will share the learnings from our latest analyes and discuss with you the kind of digital capacities needed to address future humanitarian challenges.
