Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding
Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding
Led by Pinar Tank
The Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding (CRPB) programme undertakes research, policy analysis and dialogue projects. The programme aims to bridge theory, applied knowledge and engagement in peacebuilding, and cooperates with several nongovernmental organizations as well as universities and research institutes in the South.
Some Highlights
The Norwegian Initiative on Small Arms Transfers (NISAT) is a coalition between PRIO, the Norwegian Red Cross and Norwegian Church Aid, in response to the global proliferation of small arms and light weapons.
Cooperation with Save the Children Norway resulted in a PRIO study on the role of education in peacebuilding in countries emerging from civil war, providing input to Save the Children’s ‘Rewrite the Future’ campaign.
The CRPB programme aims to promote joint research projects with researchers in countries affected by conflict, cooperating with researchers in countries such as Haiti, South Africa, Afghanistan and India.
CRPB researchers carry out research on topics such as mine action, small-arms proliferation, conflict management and resolution, the reintegration of former combatants, and wealth sharing in peace agreements.
The programme has key competence on a number of countries and regions that have been, and continue to be, sites of conflict resolution and peacemaking efforts, including Afghanistan, Guatemala, Haiti, Israel/Palestine, Lebanon, Sudan, Nepal and Cyprus. The PRIO Cyprus Centre was opened in 2005 and undertakes research, dissemination and dialogue on issues related to a possible solution to the Cyprus problem. The Centre is part of the project 'Peace and Reconciliation in the Eastern Mediterranean'.
