The purpose of this seminar is to share the main findings and the policy recommendations from the What Kind of Peace is Possible (WKOP) project with key Norwegian audiences. The WKOP project addresses current policy debates on peacebuilding, conflict prevention and fragile states - from southern and northern perspectives.
The seminar is open, and no registration is necessary. Venue: NORAD, Information Center, 6th floor, Rusløkkeveien 26, Oslo
The WKOP project is funded by Norad, Ford Foundation, CIDA and IDRC, and is a project conducted by the NSI in cooperation with its southern partners in Sri Lanka, Guatemala, Afghanistan, Mozambique, Haiti and Palestine and with CMI and PRIO.
The WKOP project addresses current policy debates on peacebuilding, conflict prevention and fragile states - from southern and northern perspectives. It involves policy research and partnerships in six countries (Afghanistan, Guatemala, Haiti, Mozambique, Palestinian Territories and Sri Lanka) and with two Norwegian institutions. The WKOP research focuses on the challenges of connecting short-term peacebuilding in areas like demobilization, disarmament and reintegration (DDR) to the structural transformations - especially in the areas of democratic governance and economic equity, including gender equity - required for sustainable peace. WKOP involves policy dialogue in each country and in international fora, on this challenge and on policy options for selected local, national and international actors.
The WKOP project was jointly designed, and is being co-managed and evaluated by all core partners. Mutual capacity-building and joint learning are the core of this initiative.
