Founded in 1959, the International Peace Research Institute, Oslo (PRIO) is an independent, scholarly research institute. PRIO has a staff of about 70 people, and its working language is English.
PRIO hosts the editorial offices of two international academic journals, published by SAGE in London. Journal of Peace Research (JPR) is considered to be one of the world’s leading journals within international relations as well as peace research and political science.
The managing editor of JPR is employed by PRIO and reports to the editors of the journal, Nils Petter Gleditsch and Henrik Urdal. S/he will support the editors in administrating the editorial processes of the journal. In this role, his/her primary responsibilities will be:
- To be responsible for the flow of manuscripts through the editorial office: To register and administer articles from submission, via peer review to editors for final decision on publication
- To stay in contact with authors
- To plan and control the composition of each journal issue
- To stay in contact with the publisher and ensure a smooth production process
- To assist in the organizing of editorial correspondence and editorial meetings
- To keep a check on expenditures and other administrative tasks
Candidates for this position are expected to fulfil the following requirements:

University education at BA level or above;

Fluency in English (written and verbal);

Ability to work accurately and keep deadlines.
Advantageous qualities would be:

· Publishing experience
- Familiarity with topics related to peace research
The position is a one year temporary position, with good possibilities for extension/permanent employment. We hope to have our new colleague in place as early in January 2010 as possible.
