Voice of America called me yesterday for a comment on the Reuters article about a possible use of Russian technology in the Chinese 'fifth generation' J-20 fighter. I find it implausibe that MiG would sell their Project 1.44 just because Suhoi was chosen as the producer of the T-50 fighter. My suspicion is that the leak to Reuters originated in Rosoboronexport, the monopolist on exporting arms from Russia, which has recently received bad publicity for taking a thick cut on the contract for delivering Russian helicopters to Afghanistan, and is increasingly elbowed by producers who want to have direct access to external markets.
