Head of Project
Professor Stein Tønnesson is Professor II in Human Development Studies at the University of Oslo until 1 June 2001. Then he becomes Director of the International Peace Research Institute, Oslo (PRIO). Tønnesson received a Dr. Philos. degree from the University of Oslo in 1991. He has previously done research on the international history of war and revolution in Vietnam, and on nation-building in Southeast Asia. Professor Tønnesson worked as a part-time consultant in Asian matters to the Norwegian public oil company Statoil, 1997-2000. Dr. Kristen Nordhaug received a PhD in International Development Studies from Roskilde University in 1996 and a Mag. Art. degree in sociology from the University of Oslo in 1989. Mr Knut Snildal received a Cand.Polit. degree in Political Science from the University of Oslo in September 2000. Mr Snildal also received a Master of Arts degree in international studies from Griffith University, Brisbane in 1998. He has been with the project since January 1999. Ms Yue Feng received a masters in economics from the University of Oslo in June 2000. Ms Yue was formerly employed at the Institute World Economics and Politics at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) in Beijing. She has been with the project since October 1999. Ms Cecilie Figenschou Bakke is a post graduate student at the Department of Political Science and Sociology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim. Ms Figenschou Bakke has studied Mandarin at Fudan University, Shanghai. Ms Figenschou Bakke has been with the project since January 1999.
